Frank Douglas “Doug” Gillett, age 64, passed away August 16, 2018, at Bryan East Medical Center, Lincoln, Nebraska, after a long illness. Doug was born June 13, 1954, in Tillamook, Oregon to Dr. and Mrs. Frank and Velma Gillett.
Doug’s family moved to Salem, Oregon in 1956, where his sister was born. He and his family spent their summers in Wakeeney, Kansas, at his maternal Grandparent’s (Mr. and Mrs Frank and Maude McCall) and Uncle Harold McCall’s farm, enjoying visits from aunts, uncles, and cousins, acquiring an appreciation for hard work, farm values, and making many fond memories.
After graduating from high school in Oregon, Doug moved back to Kansas and graduated from Kansas State University. He then worked for several large companies, including McCall Oil, excelling in Contract Negotiations and Purchasing, living in various locations in Oregon, California, and his beloved Dewberry Court in Sun Valley (Reno), Nevada. After retirement, Doug moved back to Salem, Oregon for a short time and then to Oberlin, Kansas, where he lived until his passing. Doug enjoyed gardening, having family and friends over for delicious gourmet meals, showing visitors the sights of our beautiful country, and volunteering at the Dog and Animal Rescue while living in Sun Valley, Nevada. He ended up adopting six rescue dogs of his own, and they were the highlight of his life, especially as his illness progressed.
Doug is preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Velma M. (McCall) Gillett, and his father, Dr. Frank G. Gillett. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Studer, one aunt, and several cousins and their families.
