Pamela Yvonne Edgett

Pamela Yvonne Edgett, 71, of Norton, Kansas passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care.

Pam was born in Norton on May 7, 1947, to Kenneth and Geraldine (Cochran) Corns. She spent her early childhood growing up on Army bases in Washington, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Alaska. She returned to Norton at age 13, graduating from Norton Community High School, attending St. Mary’s of the Plains College in Dodge City, Kansas receiving her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) degree. She worked at the Norton County Hospital as an LPN and Surgical Scrub Nurse taking emergency call back for 43 years until she retired. She worked 10 more years at Whispering Pines in Norton until her health forced her to retire permanently.

Pam married (Lloyd) Elvin Edgett on September 12, 1971, in Norton, Kansas. They were married for 47 years.

On September 6, 1972, Pam and Elvin welcomed Stacie Lynn into this world. Stacie was the apple of her mom’s eye and they two peas in a pod. They shared the love of bargain shopping together. Many friends found their house as a second home. Gayleen Chickering, was one of those friends that Pam adopted and accepted as her own daughter.

Pam and Elvin created a marriage many wished and dreamed of and enjoyed traveling all across the United States in Elvin’s 1954 Kaiser Frazer Manhattan sightseeing and attending car shows with Stacie, Carter, Cooper, and the nieces and nephews.

Pam was a woman with many talents and hobbies including baking; canning; sewing; gardening; and remodeling.

In 2002 and in 2005, Pam’s life changed when her grandsons, Carter and Cooper were born respectively. She loved them “more than you’ll ever know” and was always seen at their events from school to sports to their faith. Two grand-daughters were brought into Pam’s family when Gayleen and Clay Chickering welcomed Addison and Morgan into their family.

She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic.

Survivors include her husband, Elvin of the home; daughter, Stacie Minson, WaKeeney; grandsons, Carter & Cooper Minson, WaKeeney; sister, Deborah (John) Lindenman, Morland; brother, David Corns, Norton; sister-in-law Linda (Cal) Fritz, Hildreth, NE; aunt, Marcia Cochran, Norton; nieces, Tammy (Roger) VanLoenen and family, Hill City; Amaryah (Skyler) Jenkins, Grand Island, NE; Carina Fritz, Hildreth, NE; and nephews, Shawn (Melissa) Lindenman and family, Morland; Cory (Beth) Lindenman and family, Winfield; Brent Lindenman family; Gayleen (Clay) Chickering, Addison and Morgan, Glenwood, IA; and special friend Kay (Mike) Snodgrass.

Pam is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth & Geraldine Corns; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold & Fern Yearka, brother-in-law, Lynn Yearka, grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

The funeral service will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney, KS on Wednesday, September 19, at 10:30 a.m. Father Charlie Steier, Christ the King, will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Norton City Cemetery in Norton, KS at approximately 2:00 p.m.

Visitation will be held at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney on Tuesday, September 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Sun Room, Hospice Services of Phillipsburg, LLC; or the family’s discretion. Contributions may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 North 12th, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
