HAYS, Kan.-Hays High finished 2-1 at their home quadrangular on Thursday at the Hays High Gym. The Lady Indians opened up with Salina South and won the first set 25-18. Hays had a 24-23 lead in the second set but couldn’t hold it and lost 25-27. Hays never led in the third set and fell by a score of 20-25 and lost the match two sets to one.
The Lady Indians came out of the gate slow in their second match of the night against Abilene, dropping the first set 18-25. They trailed the Cowgirls 20-21 late but battled back and won 27-25 to force a second set. The Lady Indians trailed 17-21 late in the third set but battled back by scoring eight of the next 10 points to win the set and secure the match.
Norton was up in the last match of the night and Hays took care of business in straight sets winning 25-19 and 25-16. The Lady Indians had several girls step up on the evening but none more than Jaysa Wichers who really added an extra dimension at the net. It was a total team effort tonight for this senior laden team who has now improved to 10-9 on the season.
The stats were again impressive for Hays. Tasiah Nunnery led the team with 39 kills on the night and chipped in with three aces against Abilene. Hannah McGuire poured in 61 assists and Kallie Leiker had 44 assists. The Lady Indians will compete in the Great Bend Tournament on Saturday.
