Brenda D. Crawford passed away October 23, 2018, at the Via Christi Village in Hays, Kansas at the age of 78. She was born in Hays on October 12, 1940 to Leonard and Edna (Darnell) Kern. Brenda grew up and attended school in Plainville. She graduated from Marymount College in Salina with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. On October 5, 1963, she married Cecil Crawford in Plainville. They were blessed with three sons: John, Scott, and Dan.
Brenda was a registered nurse at the Rooks County Health Center before owning and operating Crawford Supply Company since 1986. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ladies Guild of Plainville, and Sunflowerette Golf Club. Brenda enjoyed watching KU sports, putting together photo albums, fishing, camping, traveling, and spending winters in Texas. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandkids, and her dogs.
Brenda is survived by her husband Cecil of the home; sons John Crawford and wife Valerie of Plainville, Scott Crawford and wife Taryn of Hays, and Dan Crawford of Allen, TX; brother John Kern and wife Pat of Plainville; six grandchildren Alan Crawford, Sara Werner, Caleb Crawford, Noah Crawford, Chloe Crawford, and Kendall Crawford; and one great-grandchild Ivy Ray Werner.
Preceding Brenda in death are her parents Leonard and Edna Kern.
Brenda will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind, she will live forever in our hearts and memories. We take comfort knowing that like the caterpillar who continually labors, her life and work on earth is finished, but by the grace of God, her spirit now flies forever with her Lord like a butterfly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018, at 10:30 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday 1:00-8:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 3:30 P.M. at the funeral home in Plainville.
