Schumaker’s Homer Lifts Cards Past Kansas City

Skip Schumaker’s home run with one-out in the ninth inning lifted the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-4 win over the Royals yesterday at Busch Stadium. It was their second straight 5-4 win over Kansas City on a walk-off homer in the ninth.

The Royals tied the game in the top of the ninth on Alcides Escobar’s first home run of the year.

Albert Pujols, who homered earlier in the game to break a 2-2 tie, sprained his left wrist when he was run into by Wilson Betemit trying to catch the throw from second baseman Pete Kozma.

The Royals are off today before returning home to Arizona tomorrow.
