Cornell Helps Larks To Sweep Of El Dorado

A big day at the plate for Eastern Oklahoma’s Aaron Cornell helps the Hays Larks to a three-game sweep of El Dorado over the weekend.

Cornell hit a two-out three-run homer in the top of the ninth Sunday to lift Hays to a 4-1 win in a game suspended after eight innings by rain Saturday night. Cornell scored the tying run in the eighth Saturday night. He had two more hits and three RBI’s and stole home in the Larks 8-3 win in the regularly schedule game.

Yavapai Community College’s Ethan Leiter, who drove in the tying and winning runs with a double Friday night, homered twice last night.

Fort Hays State’s Andy Lewton picks up the win, allowing two runs on two hits over six innings. Bradley’s Justin Ziegler picks up the save, getting a strikeout with the bases loaded.

The Larks are now 9-4 and 6-3 in the Jayhawk League and a half-game behind Derby. They are off today before hosting Dodge City tomorrow.
