Larks Win Series Opener in El Dorado, Remain Undefeated

Shawn Lewick and Jason Heflin combined to allow no earned runs on four hits as the Hays Larks moved to 6-0 with a 5-1 win at El Dorado Friday night at McDonald Stadium.

Lewick allowed one unearned run on three hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking four for his second win of the summer. Heflin allowed just one hit, striking out two and walking one for his second save.

Trailing 1-0, the Larks took the lead for good scoring three in the third on RBI singles from Austin Darby and MacKenzie Handel. Joe Betcher drove in the final run of the inning on a fielders choice.

The Larks added two more runs in the sixth on Austin Jarvis’ one-out double and a Darby sacrifice fly.

The Broncos threatened in the eighth getting two on with back-to-back walks to open the inning, but Heflin retired the next three batters. They would get two on in the ninth but a double play and strikeout ended the game.

Aaron Cornell had three hits, Ryan Busboom two and Darby drove in two.
