Flanagan, 2 Relievers Combine on 2-Hitter in Larks Win

Patrick Flanagan and two relievers combine on a two-hitter, helping the Hays Larks push their win streak to six games with a 3-1 win over the Dodge City A’s Monday night at Larks Park.

Flanagan allowed just the one run on two hits over six innings for his second win of the summer. The senior-to-be at Bradley gave up the run on a fourth inning single after hitting the leadoff batter. The Larks defense prevented any more damage with a  dazzling double-play when second baseman Zair Kioeman flipped underhand to shortstop Elvin Rodriguez who caught it barehanded and fired to first.

Austin Cox pitched two hitless innings and Colton Reavis faced four in the ninth for his fifth save. The Larks scored in the first on an Austin Darby sac fly. They broke the 1-all tie in the fifth on MacKenzie Handel’s two-out single. They made it 3-1 an inning later on a Brett Lang single.

The win moves Hays to 24-10 overall and 18-10 in the Jayhawk League where the now have a game and-a-half lead over Dodge City who they play again Tuesday night in Dodge City. The Larks are in Liberal Wednesday before returning home for a three-game weekend series with Derby.
