Wanda Irene (Lewis) Heronemus passed peacefully into the arms of Our Lord on Friday, October 11, 2019, in Boise, Idaho.
Born near Amy, Kansas, December 27, 1928, to Charles and Stella (Williams) Lewis, she graduated from Dighton High School, going on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree from West Texas State University and Master’s Degree from Northern Arizona University. She taught elementary school in Gallup, New Mexico, Bayfield, Colorado, and Window Rock, Arizona, with her career spanning more than 25 years, and was a member of the ADK Sorority, an educator’s service organization. She was always an active member of church wherever she lived.
Wanda married Alvin C. Heronemus in August, 1949 and celebrated 50 years of wedded bliss before his passing in 2000. She enjoyed gardening and softball, playing as the pitcher for the CIC Falcons in Gallup, New Mexico for five years. She is survived by her children, Clifford A. Heronemus, Gallup, New Mexico, Sherry (Heronemus) Dees, Los Banos, California, and James N. Heronemus, Boise, Idaho, five grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alvin C. Heronemus, her siblings Ivan C. Lewis, Dean Lewis, Lyle Lewis, Dale Lewis, Glenn Lewis, Wesley Lewis, Chester Lewis, Thelma (Lewis) Pickerell, Doyle Martindale, and Edra (Martindale) Miller.
There will be a luncheon at Dighton United Methodist Church, 140 E. Vine Street, Dighton, at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 19, 2019, with graveside services to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Dighton Cemetery, Dighton, Kansas.
