The Hays Larks extended their longest win streak since 2003 and in the process wrap up the Jayhawk League title. Hays won their 10th-straight Saturday night, 5-1 over Derby to move to 28-10 overall and 22-10 in the Jayhawk League.
The Larks took the lead with two in the fourth on a Ryan Busboom two–run homer.
The Twins loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth but managed just one run on a bases loaded walk and left them loaded. Brett Macari recorded a strikeout then a ground ball to get the Larks out of the jam.
The Larks came back in the bottom of the inning with two runs, one on a throwing error and the other on an Aaron Cornell double. They would add their final run on a Tito Andino leadoff homer in the eighth.
Blake Johnston (4-0) picks up the win, allowing one unearned run on four hits over 5 1/3 innings. Brett Macari went 2 2/3 scoreless innings and Colton Reavis worked a 1-2-3 ninth.
MacKenzie Handel, Joe Betcher and Austin Darby all had two hits.
The Larks wrap up the series at home Sunday night at 7pm. Admission is free courtesy of Wal-Mart and Cedar Lodge Dental Group. You can also hear the game on 14-KAYS beginning at 6:45pm.
