UPDATE: Rooks County Grass Fire Driven By High Wind

UPDATE:  A retired Rooks County fireman helping with firefighter rehab at the scene says officials believe the fire was started by a hawk taking off and flying into a power line.

ORIGINAL:  Firefighters from across Rooks County and Natoma (Russell County Rural Fire District # 3) are on the scene of a grass fire six miles northeast of Plainville.

The fire was reported about 12:20p.m.

Traffic is stopped on County Road R for a mile in each direction.

At least 300 acres have burned.  The fire is spreading to the north driven by the south/southwest wind of about 20 miles an hour.
