Fort Hays State University head women’s basketball coach Tony Hobson announced that four more players committed for the 2011-12 season, bringing the recruiting class total to seven. The four players include three transfers and one true freshman. The three transfers are Jacqueline Bartleson from Howard (Texas) College, Kaiameka Brown from Mt. San Antonio (Calif.) College, and Katelyn Edwards from the University of South Dakota, while the freshman addition is Keriann Shaw from Sandy Creek High School in Nebraska.
Bartleson, a native of Santa Fe, N.M., comes to the program as a sophomore from Howard College in Big Springs, Texas. She was an All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference First Team selection in 2009-10 as a freshman, averaging 10.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Last year, Bartleson played in just seven games but suffered a season-ending injury. She was averaging 7.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, but retains her year of eligibility by receiving a medical hardship.
Brown, a native of La Puente, Calif., comes to the program from Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. As a sophomore in 2010-11, Brown was a starter averaging nearly four points per game, along with three rebounds and assists per game, helping the team to a South Coast Conference title.
Shaw, a native of Deweese, Neb., played her prep career at Sandy Creek High School. She helped the team to the Nebraska Class C2 state championship in 2010 as a junior and a third-place finish in Class C1 in 2011 as a senior. She was a Class C1 All-State Second Team selection in 2011 and a Class C2 All-State First Team selection in 2010 and honorable mention selection in 2009. She averaged 11 points per game her senior year.
Edwards is a native of Crete, Neb., and will have three years of eligibility remaining. She is a sophomore transfer from the University of South Dakota. She played in 30 games last year as a true freshman, averaging 2.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game as a reserve. Edwards had a solid prep career at Crete (Neb.) High School, where she was a Lincoln Journal Star Super State Third Team selection, an All-Nebraska Second Team and Class A First Team selection as a senior. She finished as a four-time all-state selection in Nebraska.
