House Passes Disaster Assistance

Thursday afternoon the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Supplemental Agricultural Disaster Assistance.

The legislation provides drought relief to farmers and ranchers by restarting programs authorized in the 2008 Farm Bill but that expired in September 2011. Such programs primarily include assistance to livestock producers, and are paid for by budget reductions in other areas.

House Agriculture Committee member Tim Huelskamp of Kansas voted for the bill.
