Union Pacific Railroad is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its creation with a tour of a steam locomotive. UP Spokesman Mark Davis says the legendary locomotive is making a loop starting in Cheyenne, Wyoming, through Nebraska and Iowa and then back down to Kansas.
The locomotive will make brief stops in the area next week. On August 16th the train will be in Russell around 10am and WaKeeney at noon.
The railroad was created when President Abraham Lincoln signed the Pacific Railway Act on July 1, 1862.
