Lewick retired the first eight batters he faced, giving up singles in the third, fifth and seventh innings. He struck out eight and waked just one to move to 4-0 on the summer and 2-0 at the NBC.
The Larks scored five in the first on an Austin Darby two-run single and a Joe Betcher two-run double. Aaron Cornell, who picked up his tournament leading 13th hit to start the inning, was hit by a pitch to drive in the fifth run.
Hays added three runs on one hit in the fourth, taking advantage of four walks and a hit batter.
The Foresters, who were the only remaining unbeaten team left out of the original field of 32, didn’t advance a runner past first until the seventh.
The Larks are now 6-1 at the tournament with all six wins in the losers bracket and will play the winner of the Thursday’s late game between the St. Joseph (MO) Mustangs and the Seattle (WA) Studs at 6pm Friday. Pregame coverage at 5:45pm on 14-KAYS and on-line at www.hayspost.com.
