Rosalind Anna Desmarteau
Rosalind Anna Desmarteau, 88, Hays, KS died August 23, 2012 at her daughter’s house.
She was born December 24, 1923 in Hays, KS to Howard “Casey” and Matilda Leiker Houser. She attended Girls Catholic High School. She left school to work at Boeing during Word War II. She was a true Rosie the Riveter.
She married Dorious “John” Desmarteau in Hays, KS on January 6, 1947. He preceeded her in death on August 5, 2012. They farmed in Damar, lived shortly in Wyoming, then settled in Hays, KS. She was a homemaker and worked shortly as a sales person.
Rosie loved the outdoors and would spend time tending to the lawn and flower garden. She loved watching sports on TV with John, playing pitch, and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Altar Society Christian Mothers, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include: A daughter, Mary Toepfer, Hays. A sister, Thelma King, Hays, KS. Three grandchildren, Matthew Glassman and wife Haylee, Bridgeport, CT; Andrea Paul and husband Landon, Hays; Anthony Glassman and girlfriend Lexi Copeland, Hays. One Great-Grandchild Isabelle Glassman, Bridgeport, CT. One Step-grandson Russell Toepfer, wife Kitty, and children Emma, Luke and Jack, Olathe, KS. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, a brother; Harry “Buck” Houser, a sister; Charlotte Weltz; and son-in-law Thomas L. Toepfer.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Monday, August 27, 2012 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hays. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A combined Altar Society Christian Mothers and VFW Auxiliary service will be at 5:30 on Sunday at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home followed by a parish vigil service at 6:30 pm. Friends may call on Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home and from 2:00 pm until service time on Monday at the church.
