The Hays Larks scored three in the second and two in the third then hold on to defeat the El Dorado Broncos 5-3 in the opening game of their three-game Jayhawk League series at Larks Park Friday night.

The Larks scored in the second on a MacKenzie Handel double and a Kelton Rule single. Cody Gougler and Jon Ryan hit back-to-back homers in the third. The Broncos scored three in the fourth then were held to two hits the rest of the night.

Justin Ziegler allowed three runs on six hits over eight innings for the win. Michael Burchett worked a scoreless ninth for the save as the Larks improve to 17-11 and 11-9 in the Jayhawk League. The two play the middle game of the series Saturday night. It’s Larkstoberfest and Oldtimers night. Seven o’clock start with free admission. Sunday night’s game will be broadcast on KAYS.
