During a budget work session, the Ellis County Commission Monday addressed subsidies, or funding for outside agencies. To try to help balance the budget the commission has decided to give those entities the same funding as the current year with a few exceptions. Commissioner Swede Holmgren asked to give Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas a portion of the increase requested.

The commission also will give High Plains Mental Health a $10,000 increase, which is half of the request and ACCESS Transportation an extra $2,000.

The economic development coalition will be cut $12,500 to bring the county’s contribution in line with the City ofHays.
