The Hays High Indians piled up 618 yards of offense against Liberal in a 51-34 win. The Indians trailed 7-0 after an early fumble led to a quick score by Liberal (1-2, 0-1). Hays (2-1, 1-0) scored moments later on a David Cardinal 13 yard run, but the extra point was missed making the score 7-6.
From that point Hays outscored Liberal 28-6 in the the rest of the first half. David Cardinal scored four rushing touchdowns in the first half and Chance Pitcock scored on a 13 yard reverse. Liberal scored on two field goals from 30 and 25 yards.
Hays led 34-13 at half time and the blew the game open on a 76 yard hook up between Alex Delton and Adam Deterding. Liberal did keep the starters in for all but one play in the game and scored two late touchdowns for the final 51-34 score.
Notes: David Cardinal surpassed 2000 rushing yards in his career and now has 33 rushing touchdowns. Alex Delton has increased his passing yards in each game this season. Alex Delton has ran for over 100 yards in each game this season.
