Blues Smokin’ Rock Benefit for Charlie “CB” Barb October 13

BY KAREN PFEIFER, Hays.  Charlie is Karen’s brother.

Charlie was diagnosed with tracheal cancer in November of 2011. He was hospitalized at KU Medical Center in Kansas City for two weeks. He chose to take four rounds of chemo treatments, which took quite a toll on his body. At the end of round one, he spent Christmas Day through New Years Day in Via Christi Hospital in Wichita. On the last day of his fourth round of treatment, he went straight to ICU at the hospital in Dodge City, KS where he remained for 27 days.

Two of Charlies greatest joys in life are motorcycles and music. As determined as ever, he has been back on his motorcycle, whenever his health permits. Listening to music helped him to endure his chemo treatments. It seemed fitting to use those two things as a way to raise money to help with his living and medical expenses.

A sidecar smoker has been built and will be given away at a benefit dance that will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012. The dance will be held a the Iron Horse Saloon in Ulysses, Kansas. Third Degree, Garden City, and Anthony & the Anamals, Hays, will be playing from 8:00 pm to 1:00 am. The drawing for the sidecar smoker will take place during the break between bands.

The smoker will be displayed at Doerfler’s Harley Davidson this weekend, September 28th-29th.
