FHSU Women’s Soccer Plays Missouri Western to Draw

The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team played to a 2-2 draw Thursday night against Missouri Western at the FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays. The first tie of the season brings the FHSU record to 7-5-1 and 3-4-1 in the MIAA.

The Tigers scored first in the 18th minute when Jordan Hester put in a shot from inside the box that went to the left side of the goal. The goal was the only tally of the first half.

Early in the second half, the Griffons tied the score at 1-1 with a goal in the 47th minute. Abby Widrig made a run and hit a shot by a charging Nicole Barnaba.

FHSU regained the lead, 2-1, in the second half when Jordan Shaw knocked in a loose ball in the box in the 78th minute. The advantage did not hold as MWSU scored on a free kick in the 82nd minute for the 2-2 tie.

Despite the 2-2 tie, the Tigers outshot the Griffons 28-10 in the match, including a 4-0 advantage in the two overtimes. In the first half, FHSU totaled 12 shots to two from MWSU.

The Tigers continue their weekend with a home match against Northwest Missouri State on Saturday at 11 a.m.
