Summit Speaker says Don’t Let Abusers off the Hook.

The keynote speaker at Tuesday’s summit to confront domestic and sexual violence had a two-part message. Lundy Bancroft is an intervention counselor, who has worked with thousands of abusive men. Bancroft says first society needs to think about the children involved.

Secondly, stop letting these men off the hook. Bancroft says they tend to be able to fool people into not believing the abused and courts are reluctant to put them in jail. However, he says research has shown that jail reduces the rate of recidivism in abuse cases more than any other crime.

The summit, organized by Options: Domestic and Sexual Violence Services, was held at Fort Hays State University.
