The updated comprehensive plan recently approved by the City of Hays suggests a development in the area once occupied by the train depot on West 10th Street. It has been determined that the city owns that land, and Commissioner Ron Mellick asked the other commissioners Thursday night if they’d like to be proactive in marketing the land.
Commissioner Barbara Wasinger says it would be a great place to put a commercial property.
The commissioners threw out ideas last night about setting design standards and possibly including a public fountain or memorial. They asked city staff to look at options for marketing the property for sale or lease and options for potential covenants.
