The Hays Larks turn three double plays and the bullpen pitches 4 1/3 scoreless innings as they defeat the Liberal Bee Jays 9-5 Tuesday night at Brent Gould Field in Liberal.

For a fourth straight game, the Larks score three in the first and led 4-2 before Liberal came back with three in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. The Larks tie the game on a Cody Gougler groundout in the seventh then take the lead one inning later on an Elvin Rodriguez two-run single. Sean Wilson followed with his first home run in three years with the team for the final margin.

Starter Jose Gomez allowed all five Liberal runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings, but the bullpen picked him up not allowing another run the rest of the way. Matt Schmit picks up the win with 2 1/3 scoreless innings.

The Larks, who have won seven of their last nine league games, are now 24-13 and 16-11 in the Jayhawk League where they move back into a first-place tie with Haysville. They close out the series in Liberal Wednesday before heading to Dodge City Thursday for the final game of the road trip.
