C.J. Napier of the Fort Hays State wrestling team has been named the MIAA Wrestler of the Week on Monday, November 19, for his performance at the Nebraska-Kearney Holiday Inn Open this past weekend in Kearney, Neb. Napier won the 141-pound weight class in the Elite Division.
Napier went 4-0 at the Nebraska-Kearney Holiday Inn Open to win the 141 pound Elite Division bracket. Napier defeated Ryan Fillingame of Adams State to win the tournament by a 2-1 decision in the finals. Fillingame is the preseason No. 3 ranked wrestler in the nation at 133 pounds, but was wrestling up a weight class. Napier defeated Zachary Stepan of Air Force 8-6 in his first match of the day. He then defeated Austin Breckinridge of Wyoming 9-3 and defeated Brock Coutu of UNK 10-5 to make the final. The junior is a native of Columbus, Kan.
