The Daktronics All-Central Region Team for men’s soccer was released on Monday with Fort Hays State receiving the most all-region selections of any team in the region. Fort Hays State had seven selections (four first team and three second team) on a list dominated by teams from the MIAA. Earning first-team honors was Daniel Peralta, Eric Hymer, Tanner Brock and Diego Cabral while Tomas Mares, Kent Freund and Michael Cole all received second-team honors
Peralta finished the year leading the Tigers in points with 26, scoring 12 goals with two assists. He scored his final two goals of the season in the NCAA Tournament loss to Northeastern State, which allowed him to take over the team lead in goals. Peralta joins his brother Juan from Northeastern State on the first team, as both were also All-MIAA First Team selections as forwards. He also led FHSU in shot percentage (.250), had three-game winning goals, and converted all three of his penalty kick opportunities on the season.
Hymer started every match for the Tigers at defender in the regular season until suffering an injury that kept him from postseason play. He led the team in minutes prior to the postseason. He had one assist in the regular season and helped FHSU keep its opponent goals against average to 1.35 per match in the regular season. Hymer was also an All-MIAA First Team selection.
Brock earns a first-team all-region nod after being the only player named unanimously to the All-MIAA First Team. He finished the year with 10 points with two goals and six assists. He started all 19 matches for FHSU and led the team in minutes played.
Cabral earns all-region first team honors for the second consecutive year. Last year, he was an All-South Central Region First Team selection and All-America Third Team selection in the program’s first year. Cabral had another solid year in 2012 with 21 points, which included seven goals and seven assists. He now has 19 assists over two seasons with the Tigers. He was an All-MIAA Second Team selection this year.
Mares was the second-leading goal scorer for the Tigers this year with 11. He had 24 points for the season, adding two assists. He finished with a .180 shot percentage for the season and led the MIAA in game-winning goals with five.
Freund earns a second-team selection at goalkeeper after getting All-MIAA Honorable Mention honors. He finished the year with a record of 6-4-2 with 82 saves and a .796 save percentage. He made 12 starts for the Tigers between the pipes.
Cole is a second-team selection at forward. He was an All-MIAA Second Team selection as well, finishing the year with six goals and four assists for 16 points. He finished second on the team in shot percentage (.222).
