A former Ness City man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years. Benito Cardenas Jr., 37, was convicted in August of rape and aggravated criminal sodomy under Jessica’s Law. The crimes occurred in Ness City in September 2010.

Cardenas also is facing charges of aggravated escape from custody and felony theft. He’s accused of escaping from the Ness County jail following his conviction. He was caught in Trego County. A court appearance on those charges is scheduled for December 11.
