FHSU’s Nicholson Named MIAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week

Fort Hays State freshman guard Craig Nicholson was named MIAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week on Monday (Dec. 10) for his efforts during the week of December 3-9. Nicholson nearly averaged a double-double in points and assists for the week.

Nicholson averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 assists per game in wins over Central Missouri and Missouri Western. On Wednesday (Dec. 5) against Central Missouri in a 77-72 win, the true freshman scored a new career-high 22 points and added a team-high seven assists. He scored five of Fort Hays State’s final nine points to help hold off the Mules as he went 8 of 15 from the field and three of four from behind the three-point line. On Saturday against MWSU, Nicholson posted his first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 assists in an 84-74 overtime win. He scored seven of the team’s 14 points in overtime including a 3-point field goal with 32 seconds remaining that helped FHSU close out the victory.

The 5-8 true freshman is a native of Wichita, Kan. where he competed at Wichita Northwest High School.
