The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers raced out to an 8-0 lead and never trailed in a 96-58 win over South Dakota Mines Saturday afternoon at Gross Coliseum. The win improves the 10th-ranked Lady Tigers to 10-0 for the first time in school history. It also snapped the Lady Hardrockers three-game win streak and dropped them to 9-4 on the season.
Mines pulled within three at 15-12 with 12:42 to play in the first half but Fort Hays State outscored the visitors from Rapid City 23-11 over the next 10-plus minutes and led by 15 at the half. They then opened the second half with a 21-6 run and led by as many as 48.
Kate Edwards led five Lady Tigers in double-figures with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Melissa Nelson added 15 points with Kate Lehman, Taylor Chandler and Tera Inglesbee all scoring 12.
FHSU shot 52-percent from the floor and hit 21-of-23 free throws.
