Hays High 51 – Abilene 30 (Ladies)
For the first time all season the Hays High Lady Indians won back to back games with a 51-30 win over Abilene on the road Tuesday night. Hays trailed 6-5 late in the first quarter, then went on two 8-0 runs over the next ten minutes to lead by nine at half time.
Abilene carried momentum into the second half beating the half time buzzer with a three pointer and then scoring the first six points of the second half closing the score to 23-20. Hays though went on a 11-0 run to build a 14 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Indians shot 44% (21-48) from the field and out rebounded the Cowgirls 33-30. Abilene was held to just 25% shooting (11-44) and made just 2 of 17 three pointers.
Katelyn Schumacher scored high 17 points in the win and April Johnson added a career high nine as eight different players scored.
Hays improves to 8-9 on the year and Abilene drops to 10-8.

Hays High 44 – Abilene 62 (Boys)
Abilene would make a run, then Hays would answer back. In the end though, Abilene had one more run in them than Hays did, winning 62-44 Tuesday night in Abilene.
Hays led early 8-5, until the Cowboys closed the first quarter on a 12-2 run leading 17-8 after one quarter. Hays then trailed by 12 after an 8-2 Abilene run. Hays though answered back out scoring Abilene 8-1 in the final 2:30 minutes before half time to trail only 28-23 at half.
Hays got two early threes in the third quarter to get within three at 32-29, but again the Cowboys made off with the lead with a 9-2 run going up by ten. And again Hays answered back. Two Nick Petz threes sandwiched around a Isaiah Nunnery three pulled Hays to one at 41-40 entering the fourth quarter.
Abilene made one more run that Hays could not over come, outscoring the Indians 18-1 over seven minutes of the fourth quarter and 21-4 overall.
Hays made 9 of 18 three point shots through three quarters, but then missed all five of their fourth quarter attempts, shooting 15-41 over all for 37%. Abilene was hot all night and shot 60% (21-35) and 4-10 beyond the arc. The Cowboys shot free throws well too, makding 16-22. Hays was 5-10 from the line.
Nick Petz hit four of the Indians nine three pointers for a team high 12. Eleven different Indians scored in the game.
Hays drops to 11-6 on the season. Abilene, ranked 9th by the KBCA in class 4A, is 15-3.
Hays returns to Western Athletic Conference play on Friday in Great Bend.
