Hays Signs Interlocal Agreement for County Tax

hays-logo1The Hays City Commission has agreed to an interlocal agreement with Ellis County, under which the city would relinquish its share of a half-cent sales tax to the county for designated building projects. Commissioner Kent Steward says this is the city’s way of supporting the county’s plans to improve the jail and courthouse and build a new EMS/Rural Fire station.

The county also will approach the cities of Ellis, Victoria and Schoenchen.

The interlocal agreement would allow the county to receive all of the funds from the sales tax, if approved by voters, without needing legislative approval for a designated tax.

The county commission will consider the agreement Monday.
