Can you meet the challenge of walking across– or around– the state? Walk Kansas is an 8-week fitness program from K-State Research and Extension encouraging teams of six people to walk for their health beginning March 17 through May 11.Walk Kansas encourages teams of family members, friends and co-workers to cover the equivalent of the 423-mile distance across Kansas in eight weeks. If that doesn’t seem far enough, teams can sign up to walk across and back (800 miles) or the distance around the state’s perimeter (1200 miles).
The state-wide fitness program has become popular with team members sharing the goal to improve health, and also is being incorporated into worksite wellness programs. Near 20,000 Kansans participated last year.
The cost for Ellis County Walk Kansas is only $3 per person which provides statewide program support, weekly educational newsletters, learning activities, motivational prizes and a closing celebration. Participants may purchase an optional Walk Kansas t-shirt for an additional cost.
