The Hays Fire Department responded to a fire early this morning at a home in the 1900 block of Holmes Road.

When firefighters responded, they found smoke in the building and upon further investigation, discovered fire in the wall near the electrical meter box caused by a short in the box. Midwest Energy crews shut down power to the building. Firefighters opened the exterior wall to extinguish the fire.

The fire was reported by the residents just after 3 a.m. The building received moderate damage.
