The Fort Hays State Tigers outscored Missouri Southern 28-12 over the final 11:23 and beat the Lions 79-60 in the quarterfinals of the MIAA tournament in Kansas City Thursday. It’s the Tigers third-straight win an improves them to 20-7. The Lions end their season at 13-15. Fort Hays State will face Northwest Missouri State in the semifinals Saturday at noon. The Bearcats held off Northeastern State 69-65 in the second game Thursday.
Fort Hays State trailed by six early then went on a 25-11 run to go up eight. They pushed the lead to 13 a little over five minutes into the second half, but the Lions rallied and pulled within three at 51-48 before the Tigers decisive run.
The Tigers had four in double figures, led by Craig Nicholson with 19. Ben Congiusta, who was 4-4 from three-point range in the first half, finished with 17. Carson Konrade added 15 and a season-high eight rebounds while Lance Russell added 12, all in the second half.
