Lady Tigers Advance to MIAA Tournament Semfinals

FHSU-WBB-Lehman MIAASixth-seeded Fort Hays State played lock-down defense in the MIAA Quarterfinals on Friday against Northeastern State, producing a 61-42 win to advance to the semifinals against No. 2 seed Central Missouri. The Tigers moved to 22-6 overall with the win, while Northeastern State dropped to 19-8 overall.

A 17-4 run by the Tigers early in the game pushed them to a 16-point advantage at the 4:45 mark of the first half. The Lady Tigers led by 14 at halftime 34-20. A 14-4 run by the Tigers to open the second half extended the lead to 24 points to leave no doubt. They reached that margin once more in the second half, which was their largest of the game.

FHSU held Northeastern State to just 28 percent shooting overall in the game, including 25 percent in the first half. The Lady Tigers held the perimeter-oriented Riverhawk team to just 17.6 percent shooting beyond the 3-point line.

Kate Lehman led FHSU in scoring with 18 points, followed by Traci Keyser with 14 and Kate Edwards with 10. Lehman was 6-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line, adding six rebounds and four blocked shots. Keyser knocked down four 3-point field goals. Edwards had a team-high seven rebounds and tied for the team high in assists with five, Kaiameka Brown also had four assists.

Taylor Lewis led Northeastern State with 14 points and Tosha Tyler was right behind with 13.

Fort Hays State faces Central Missouri in the semifinals on Saturday at 8:15 pm.
