
The suspect arrested in connection with the theft of a Chevy pickup truck in Hays this week has changed his ‘Story” He originally gave the Woodward, Oklahoma sheriff’s department a fake name, Shawn Story. The name of someone he knows.
Hays Assistant Police Chief Brian Dawson told Hays Post that he is 33 year-old Maurice Miles Jr., of Hutchinson.
The Woodward Sheriff’s office confirmed that Miles is being held on a $10 thousand dollar bond. He is charged with domestic abuse, stealing the truck, and giving authorities a false name. A second suspect in the case, Miles’ girl friend, may have been hospitalized.
On Wednesday, Miles led law enforcement authorities a to rural road near Woodward. The 2-wheel drive truck taken from the 100 block of 6th Street was stuck in mud. The suspect explained that he and his girlfriend had driven to the muddy road, got into a fight and she walked away. Miles ultimately decided to walk toward town. Someone called the Woodward Sheriff’s office of a suspicious man walking in a back yard.
