In 1982, Texas A&M University started the Big Event as a way to say thank you to the community. Other schools have adopted the same idea, including Fort Hays State. Coordinator Chris Roberts says this year’s event will be the third annual, and it has grown and become more organized each year.
Over 250 students are expected to help with a variety of community service projects across town. Those projects range from reading to elementary school children to painting a garage.
Students who want to volunteer or community members who want to suggest a project should go to the website fhsustudents.org.
The Big Event will be held April 4th.
