MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) – An adviser for two Kansas State football players acknowledges a now-jailed University of Miami booster took the Wichita brothers out for lunch and paid for hotel rooms more than three years ago.
The Wichita Eagle quotes Brian Butler, who says Nevin Shapiro took Bryce and Arthur Brown, their family and Butler out for lunch in March 2008. At that time Arthur Brown already was at the University of Miami and Bryce Brown was a sophomore at East High School in Wichita.
Yahoo! Sports reported Tuesday that Shapiro says he provided improper gifts to 72 athletes. Shapiro is serving 20 years in prison.
Arthur Brown left Miami after two seasons and Bryce Brown left Tennessee after one. Both transferred to Kansas State and sat out last season per transfer rules.
