The Fort Hays State baseball team split their doubleheader at Southwest Baptist Friday. The Bearcats held the Tigers to one run on six hits in a 5-1 win in game one. The Tigers bounced back, scoring 13 runs on 20 hits, to win game two 13-4. Fort Hays State is now 15-13 overall and 11-12 in the MIAA. The Bearcats are 10-15 overall and 10-11 in the conference. The two close 0ut their three-game series Saturday afternoon at 1pm.
Game 1: Southwest Baptist 5, Fort Hays State 1
The Bearcats used a pair of two-out doubles to fuel their five-run fourth inning. The Tigers had grabbed a 1-0 lead on Jordan Miller’s RBI single in the second.
Alex Ellison (2-5) takes the complete game loss, allowing just one earned run on nine hits, striking out three and walking two.
Game 2: Fort Hays State 13, Southwest Baptist 3
The Tigers broke a 1-1 tie, scoring four in the sixth. They then blew the game open with a seven-run eighth. They added one in the ninth for the final margin.
Clayton Garland’s RBI single in the first gave the Tigers the early lead.
Kelton Rule’s one-out RBI single in the sixth gave the Tigers the lead for good. Shane Wade made it 3-1 with a double down the left field line. Chris Santoscoy drove in the final two runs of the inning with a two-out single to right.
Rule hit a solo homer and Ryan Busboom a three-run shot in the Tigers seven-run eighth. Jay Sanders triple to left and drove in another run.
Sam Thornton homered in the ninth.
Clayton Garland and Shane Wade both had four hits.
Tayler Davis (4-2) gets the win, allowing all four runs, one earned, on six hits striking out seven and walking one.
