Hays Public Library is preparing to implement The Library Corporation’s Library•Solution® automation system and several companion programs that will give borrowers and staff new, exciting ways to explore the library’s catalog.

Use the Web-based catalog to search the collection, magazine articles, ebooks, and more in one remote search. Rate and review books and movies as you browse, and view your personal information at any time from any device with Internet or Wi-Fi access, including smart phones and tablets. Children will have their own graphical catalog featuring Scout, an animated puppy who will guide them through the process of finding a book.
TLC’s automation system is designed with tablets and touchscreens in mind. Library staff won’t be chained to a desk because with LS2 Staff, an iPad or tablet, and a wireless scanner, they can roam the stacks, assist with long lines, and help borrowers check out items from anywhere in the library. Patrons can use a tablet to explore the e-books and digital resources in the library’s catalog and download selections onto their computer or handheld device.
“Borrowers will be able to become much more involved with what they check out,” said Eric Norris, Hays Public Library director. “They can find the information they need more quickly and easily, and all in one place.” The Hays Public Library circulates nearly 200,000 items, including books, audiobooks, movies, music, and ebooks.
During the transition to the new system, there will be some limitations on the existing catalog. The library will be closed on Monday, May 13, and Tuesday, May 14, to allow time for staff training and for the transition to be completed at which time the current catalog will be down.
