The high winds on Thursday didn’t stop Hays residents from attending the 62nd annual National Day of Prayer service at the First Baptist Church.
Pastor Steve Dinkel of the Liberty Fellowship Church Foursquare Association welcomed the congregation by reading President Obama’s proclamation stating that May 2, 2013 be observed as National Day of Prayer. After hearing the proclamation, those in attendance prayed for our government, families, military, businesses and more.
The National Day of Prayer was first observed in 1952 after President Harry S. Truman signed a bill proclaiming the day must be declared by each following president on the date of their choice. In 1988, the law was amended to declare every first Thursday of May as National Day of Prayer. This is the 23rd year that Hays has participated.
