The Ellis City Council voted 4-0 with two abstentions at their meeting Monday to keep its entire share of a proposed county sales tax.
TheĀ Inter-localĀ agreement, proposed by the Ellis County Commission, would give surrounding towns in EllisCounty their share of a proposed county sales tax generated through a 0.5-percent sales tax increase to EllisCounty.
Overall the Ellis City Council supported the EMS/Rural Fire project but Ellis citizens had voiced the opinion that they would like to see the money stay in the city of Ellis to work on local projects.
The Council listened to the people and voted to reject the proposal. Ellis joins Schoenchen in rejecting the proposal to share the proposed sales tax.
