Library To Have Fantasy Football For Youth

Fantasy Football @ HPL

The football season is about to kick into high gear. Your Hays Public Library Youth Services Department is going to have another fun season of Fantasy Football.

Plan now to join us after school on Tuesday September 6 for the library’s YA draft party. We will have pizza and other refreshments. Beginners and experienced players are welcome. We need to have you sign up by September 4, so that we are properly prepared for the big event!

According to the web site Fantasysportsmath.com, “fantasy sports are playing a significant role in math education. In 2009, the University of Mississippi surveyed 342 middle school and high school students who used fantasy sports in math class.Fifty-Six percent of boys and 45 percent of girls said they learned math easier because they played fantasy sports in class. And 33 percent of boys and 28 percent of girls said their grades improved.

Fantasy sports are being used in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and higher education. The games are changing lives, both academically and socially.

At some schools, everybody is playing: Students, teachers, administrators, staff, and parents. Girls report that fantasy sports are “cool,” and that the games help them to relate to the boys as equals. Simply put, fantasy sports can help reduce math illiteracy in America.”

Come join in the fantasy football fun this season at the library. For more information, go to our web site www.hayspublib.
