The Hays High girls golf team opened their season by finishing second at their own Hays High Invitational Monday afternoon at the Smoky Hill Country Club.
The Indians shot a 190, 28 behind first-place Garden City who was led by Mackenzie Thayer who fired a 5-under 32, a female course record and also the best 9-hole round in Kansas since 1988.
Hays High placed three in the top-ten led by Holly Hattan’s 8-over 43. Kaycee Beilman finished sixth with a 46 and Maddie Curry was tenth with a 50.
TMP-Marian shot a 279 to finish seventh and had no one in the top-ten. Candace Staab fired the Monarchs low round with a 62.
