North Central Kansas Technical College is offering a new certificate course, Intro to the Oilfield, designed
to train employees for the job vacancies and demands in the Kansas oilfields.
Students enrolling in the course will gain firsthand insight into the Kansas oil and gas industry, from industry experts, supplemented by industry-designed on-line training. The course includes an estimated 24 hours of field trips and 32 hours of on-line coursework. Students will earn certification from the Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association (KIOGA) and North Central Kansas Technical College and three hours of college credit.
Participants will get answers to these and other basic oil field questions:

o Whatisawaterflood?
o Whatisanelectriclogandwhyisitused?
o WhatisthathorsesheadIseegoingupanddown? o Howdoesoilgetoutofthegroundandintomycar?
They will also participate in weekly industry field trips near Hays, Kansas to include:
o Operatingworkoverrigs
o Producingoilwellpumpingunitsandtankbatteries o Apipemanufacturer
o Anoilfieldsupplystore
o Acorrosionchemicalsupplier
During this course, participants will meet prospective employers to learn what oilfield careers are available as well as submit applications for employment. The eight week courses are scheduled to begin August 19, 2013; January, 2014 and Summer, 2014. Course enrollment is limited to provide a quality experience for each participant and scholarships are available for approved applicants.
