
There were nine reports of tornadoes and four tornadoes touched down in Kansas on Tuesday evening from Rush County and Barton County to Ottawa County and two tornado reports north of Topeka. Hail was reported in areas across the state including Rush and Ellis County. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued in Ellis County just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday as a storm rolled through Shoenchen toward Hays. There were high winds, rain and reports of hail in areas adjacent to highway 183 but no serious damage reported as the storm moved out of the county.
In Ottawa County, north of Salina, a large tornado was on the ground for an almost an hour near Bennington. Two homes were heavily damaged and several out buildings, power lines were down and there was flooding in some areas from the heavy rain. No injuries were reported.
A tornado and large hail did damage in the Northeast Kansas community of Corning in Nemaha County last night. Dozens of buildings received damage but according to the Sheriff’s office nobody was injured. More severe weather is in today’s weather forecast.
