Crowds Cool Off

hapDespite some iffy weather forecasts, the Hays Aquatic Park opened on schedule Saturday at noon for the summer season. Grant Lacy, Hays Recreation Commission Aquatics Director says this is one of the biggest opening days they’ve had in awhile.

This is the first year the HAP will stay open late one night a week.

Daily admission to the Hays Aquatic Park is $3 for ages 3 and up; season passes are $40.  Admission is $2 at Wilson Pool, 28th and Fort Streets, which will open Saturday, June 1.

Pool employees in both locations keep a close eye on the weather.

Lacy says the Hays Recreation Commission utilizes a SkyScan lightning detector.  If thunder can be heard or lightning is detected within 10 miles of Hays, the pools will temporarily close.
