An 89 year old Ellinwood woman is dead and another woman is in serious condition following a single car accident Sunday in Thomas County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Betty Dewey died at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, while 23 year old Rachel Dewey of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was flown to Denver Swedish Hospital with serious injuries.

Both women were passengers in a vehicle being driven by 60-year old Marvin Dewey of Sioux Falls South Dakota yesterday afternoon on K-25 about 6 miles north of Interstate 70,  According to the police report, Dewey fell asleep at the wheel. The car drifted to the east ditch where it hit a field access road and rolled an unknown number of times, coming to rest on its wheels facing southwest in the east ditch of K-25.

According to the Patrol, all three people in the car were wearing their seat belts.
