Big Rain, No Damage from Tuesday’s Storm

Heavy rain prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flood warning for portions of Ellis County on Tuesday evening. At 5:50 p.m. rain was reportedly falling at a rate of over 2 inches per hour north of Ellis and water was also reported over the road along sections of 160th -170th Avenue west of Hays. The flash flood warning expired at 7:15 p.m.

South east of Ellis also reported high winds of 65 miles per hour during Tuesday’s storm. North west of La Crosse had wind gusts of over 60 miles per hour.

In other parts of the state, over 2 inch size hail fell in Gray County and large hail was also reported near Dodge City, north east of Salina and Kingman County.

Rainfall totals .58 in Hays, .55 in the city of Ellis, 1 inch near Yocemento, 1.5 inches reported 4 miles north of Catherine and .36 at the Eagle Media Center. The official rainfall total from the K-State Ag research center for the past 24 hours .27.  That gives Hays 2.73 inches for the month of June and 8.68 inches for the year.
