Recruitment the focus of human resources meeting

Western Kansas Human Resource Management Association will hold its monthly meeting from noon to 1 p.m. May 9 at the Robbins Center (Eagle Communication Hall), One Tiger Place. Registration is from 11:15 to 11:30 a.m., with a short business meeting starting at 11:30 a.m.

The program for the May meeting will be “Recruitment During Time of Low Unemployment” presented by Mike Henke, Business Trainer and Consultant. The program will be submitted for HRCI and SHRM continuing education credits. This month’s meeting is free for guests.

WKHRMA is an affiliate chapter of SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management), a local professional organization for persons engaged in personal or human resource management. Search for driver in fatal hit and run UPDATE

There are still a lot of questions without answers in the hit-and-run case that killed 33-year old Rhiannon Young almost a month ago in Great Bend.

Young was found on the side of the road at the 2200 block of the 281 bypass by the Harm’s Field baseball diamond on October 12th. She was suffering from severe head injuries and was taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital and later flown to Wichita Hospital.

Lieutenant David Bailey with the Great Bend Police Department says they are still investigating.

If anyone has any information on what went on in that neighborhood they are encouraged to call the police department at 793-4120.

City Council Discusses Violations of Ethics Policy

During Monday night’s Great Bend City Council meeting, old business regarding violations of the City’s Ethics Policy was the major topic of discussion. The item tabled from last month started with Mayor Mike Allison presenting advertised and printed quotes by Council member Randy Myers from his campaign for Mayor, that according to Allison, misled the public. Allison also presented references from Myers’ campaign that were proved not factual, including a false representation of meetings he missed, as well as no evidence for his citation of “back door deals”.

Barton County Fair – Young Eagles Free Airplane Rides

EAA Chapter 1134 will be conducting a Young Eagles event Saturday morning, 8 AM through 12 PM, at the Barton County Fair Grounds. Young people ages 8 through 17 will be given free rides by the local pilots, with each ride lasting for 15-20 minutes. Participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to sign a release, no exceptions.

Once again the Barton County Fair is bringing quality entertainment to the Fair. Building on our history, of bringing new talent to the fair, the Fair Board is proud to anounce Christian group Cloverton, on Thursday night. Cloverton has been on the national christian scene for over a year. On Friday the 13th we will be presenting Hells Bells, an AC/DC Tribute band. If you like Rock and Roll you will love this exciting band. Saturday the 14th will be the CMA Global New Artists of the year, the McClymonts. From Australia, the three sisters harmonize country music like you have never heard before.

Barton County Fair – Scarecrow Challenge

One of the Theme Classes at this years fair is building and displaying a scarecrow. The Fair Association Challeges all businesses and individuals to create a Scarecrow and bring to the fair. The winner will represent Barton Co. at the Kansas State Fair in September. Here are the rules: Entry may be made by an individual, or a group, youth or adult. Use your imagination! Be Creative! Scarecrows must be under six feet tall, from floor to top of scarecrow. Hands must be sewn on or well attached. Scarecrow must be secured to or combined with a stake, and in a 5 gallon bucket of sand for standing the scarecrow, or risk disqualification. Good Luck!
